Preparation of Surfaces

  • Cleaning
  • Dry and debris free floor
  • Moisture Testing
  • Removal of Oil & Grease from surface, if any.
  • Checking of Cracks & Floor Joints & Its Treatment
  • Etching, Acid Cleaning or Grinding(Via Diamond Pads Grinder) of Fresh Surface.
  • Putting up Masking tape to mark the boundary.

1. Fresh Surface -

On Fresh Surface Prior to coating following points should be taken care of -

  • New concrete must be thoroughly dried and cured. A minimum of 28 days should be given for curing.
  • The concrete surface should be finished with a light steel trowel.
  • It is necessary to remove any oil, grease, laitance, or other foreign materials from surface. The most effective ways to remove laitance and other foreign material are mechanical ones, including vacuum blasting, scarification, or grinding.
  • Any resinous system should be installed after checking the surface for dampness. Using ASTM F-1869, or ASTM-F-2170 one can determine the moisture content or slab dryness. Remember high moisture content will be detrimental to floor.
  • Floor Joints shall be taken into account while selecting the multiple sections for coating.

2. Old Coated Surface -

On the old coated surface, prior to the new coating, the following points should be taken care of -

  • Check if the old Coating is bonded to the surface.
  • Any loose coating must be removed completely, and the edges sanded to a feathered edge.
  • The floor should be properly grinded and it should not have any gloss, or else the binding won't be proper.
  • Floor Joints shall be taken into account while selecting the multiple sections for coating.
